Spain is full of family-friendly activities that provide plenty of opportunity for bonding with the kids - and grandparents if you’re looking for a multi-generational trip.
Tour the Architectural Liveliness of Barcelona
Start your holiday in Barcelona where you can begin your tour of the city with a bike ride through the streets of Barcelona (this one is best for families with teens). Your guide will take you through Barcelona’s architectural highlights during your 3 hour tour. If you’re not up for biking, a walk through Barcelona is a great alternative – you’ll be lead through the Gothic Quarter – Born and Barri Gotic – two historic neighborhoods. You’ll get the chance to see The Royal Palace and the world famous Las Ramblas avenue – the most well known street in Barcelona – filled with music, live shows, mimes, flowers, and plenty of lively terraces. One can’t miss tour is of Antoni Gaudí’s most famous architectural creations: the Sagrada Familia church and Park Güell. The Sagrada Familia, which began construction in 1882, is still being built after all these years!
Create Art or Learn to Cook a Traditional Catalan Meal
If you have budding artists in your family you can take part in a Painting Like Picasso workshop where you’ll learn about his Cubist techniques and have a chance to create your own. An alternative is creating your own Gaudi-inspired mosaic tray while learning about the great Catalan architects – Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner. If you want to get out and see some of the great art and architecture, your guide can take you to one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites - either Hospital Sant Pau or Casa Vicens - renowned for their beautiful mosaics.
If food and cooking are up your alley, learn to cook a traditional Catalan meal with your own private family-friendly chef. In this hands-on workshop you’ll create a great tasting traditional Catalonian 3-course meal with fresh seasonal ingredients. Options include the classic Spanish starter, gazpacho, traditional Spanish paella, and then of course dessert.
In the evening enjoyed a private guided stroll through the streets of Barcelona on a tapas tasting tour. You’ll be able to taste the bite sized portions of delicious food designed for sharing that Spain is famous for.
Sail the Mediterranean from Barcelona
For a different view of the city, jump on a sailboat and enjoy Barcelona’s skyline from the sea. A private skipper will guide you from the 1992 Olympic port to the sea. From the sailboat you'll see the Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas, the coastal beaches, and Barceloneta fisherman’s quarters - while enjoying local food and drinks. In the summer, a swim in the Mediterranean is a great way to cool down and have a break from the city.
