How to make the most of the vacation you have.

Updated: Jan 2, 2022

Some people are lucky enough to go on multiple vacations a year, but for some of us we have to spread them out. So - how do you take advantage and make the most of whatever vacation time you do have?

Here are a few tips to get you thinking!

Check For Closure Schedules - and then check again!

Don’t assume that attractions operate on the same schedule. For example - most museums in Paris are closed on Mondays - but the Louvre is closed Tuesdays. If you want a tour of Pére Lachaise Cemetery (which is a good idea because the popular gravesites you’re going to want to see are kind of difficult to find) you’ll want to know that you can only take a guided tour on Saturday and Sunday. In addition - popular tourist attractions do close for maintenance - and you’re going to be pretty annoyed if you leave seeing the Eiffel Towel until your last day in Paris, and it’s closed for a little renovation. Do your research when you’re planning your itinerary and then check everything again two weeks before your travel date. ***If you’re booking with me - I’ll do this for you.***

Wake Up Early

I’m not advocating that you stay up to the point of exhaustion, but sometimes getting up early to beat the crowds is an amazing thing. You can choose to be first in line at a busy attraction or you can experience the quiet of an otherwise bustling city or beach. My grandmother used to tell me that she did her best thinking early in the morning before anyone else was awake. I concur, and it has also been some of my best memories of traveling. I think this can hold true for a lot of us. Give yourself the quiet moments to take in the atmosphere of a new place. There’s magic in the early morning hours.

Don’t Rush

This tip comes straight from my seven-year old. I asked her recently what she thinks is the best piece of advice to give someone traveling. She said, “Don’t rush or you’ll miss some really great things.” She’s right - don’t fall into the trap of trying to fit so much in that you’re rushing around and missing the experience of actually being wherever you are. Slow down and take it in.
