There is so much planning that goes into an international trip, and not the least of it is figuring out what documentation you need to bring. You want to make sure have everything you need, but you don't want to unnecessarily complicate things by having to shuffle through a massive amount of documents while you're trying to board a train somewhere. Luckily for you - I've got it down. Take a look at my recommendations below.
Travel Documents? Here’s my list!
I recommend that clients bring two hard copies of all important travel documents - and store them separately. Keep one in your cross body or daypack on your travel days, and keep one set in your luggage. Store the one in your luggage in a plastic bag with a zip closure - just in case.
You might be wondering what documents I mean? If you’re traveling to a foreign country here is my list. I recommend you make a copy of all of the following:
Passport
Visa
Travel Insurance
Driver’s License
Itinerary
Health Information (vaccination certificate if applicable)
Credit Cards
Airline Tickets
The itinerary should include all reservations and confirmation numbers including:
Lodging
Car rental
Any pre-paid confirmations - tickets to an event or show, etc.
If you’re traveling with anything unusual, like say, you’re returning your great-aunt’s ashes to Nova Scotia - be sure to be prepared for that, too. (It’s another story for another day - but trust me - better to be prepared!).
Bring a hard copy of your itinerary
I am all for virtual storage and organization. (If you book a trip with me I actually provide you with a free itinerary app with all of your info!). But I also believe in having backups. Bring two hard copies of your itinerary with you - keep one in your daypack or cross body bag and one in your luggage. This way if anything happens to your phone you can still navigate your way through your trip. (If you're booking with me you can expect to receive hard copies of your itinerary as well).
Save pictures of your itinerary
I believe in having backups of everything that’s important to insure that your vacation runs smoothly. If you’ve booked with me you’ll have your itinerary on your Travefy app. But - what if you find yourself somewhere without internet service? To be on the safe side take screen shots of each day of your itinerary. That way you can view them on your phone - even if you can’t connect to the internet while on your adventure in the Icelandic interior or deep in the Costa Rican rainforest!
Leave a copy of your itinerary with a friend
This one is pretty self explanatory - make sure someone at home knows how to get in touch with you - and knows where you’re supposed to be when. If you’re booking with me - I’ll have a copy of your itinerary, and you can also give a friend or family number my contact info. It’s always better to have someone (or multiple people) looking out for you!
