Romantic Getaways When You Can't Agree on Where to Go

It's almost Valentine's Day. What better time of year to think about romance - and arguing with your spouse! In my job I hear a LOT about the disagreements of families and loved ones - and it's not uncommon for people to disagree about where to travel, where to stay, and how much to spend. Sometimes my job feels a little bit like being a therapist - which isn't a bad thing!

So here - in my role as therapist - resorts and destinations to consider - when you just don't agree on where to go!

Grace Hotel - Santorini

When one of you wants a beach escape and the other wants an archaeological dig.

This hotel is literally cut from the cliff's edge, is located high in the Caldera, and it has that incredible wow factor view. They also offer private balconies, hot tubs, a beautiful spa, and a fantastic Mediterranean restaurant. In Santorini you'll find beaches, romance, luxury, and plenty of history and local culture to explore. If you want to read about one of my favorite Santorini excursions you can read about it here: Colors, Caves, and Culture of the Greek Isles - Excursions to See It All!

The Witchery - Edinburgh

When one of you wants a city escape and the other is a little bit mystical.

This hotel has only nine suites - all individually styled. It's opulent, gothic, and with rich textiles and heavy draping. It also has one suite with a bathroom filled with books - and it's hidden behind a secret door. I felt the need to put that in bold in case there's anyone out there who like me, grew up on Nancy Drew and spent their childhoods searching in vain for secret doors in your houses. For those of you not as obsessed with secret doors - there is a fantastic restaurant on site, and you feel like you're in another world when you're there. If you want to step outside of the bubble - Edinburgh is right outside the door. You'll find a wide variety of activities to take part in and sights to see in Edinburgh, and it's a terrific base for exploring the Highlands and other areas of Scotland. (Future blog post on that soon!). You can read about a small sample of Edinburgh activities here: The City of Literature and Unicorns. Or, "What Edinburgh Would be Called If I Had My Way.

Nayara Tented Camps - La Fortuna, Costa Rica

When one of you wants to be a little rustic and the other is only thinking luxury.

This is a beautiful experience all around. You'll have indoor and outdoor showers, a private soaking pool fed by volcanic heated thermal springs, and privacy. You'll be close to nature but still be in luxury accommodations. Located 15 minutes from Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna Waterfall.
